It is important to know what you wish to achieve with your art. What is the end point of the image? The answer to this question will determine how the image should be dealt with digitally. If you need to print the image and recreate it, you will need high res images with high dpi and a multi format interchangeable file. You also need to find out which colour formats your chosen printer will use. Would RGB or CMYK provide the better colour match and clarity. Whites are often the hardest part of an artwork to deal with and sometimes, the only option is to Photoshop. Know your audience and know your desired outcome but don't be afraid to experiment. You need to be willing to try to find success.
